FAQs of Men’s Fashion: Answers to Questions You’re Too Embarrassed to Ask

Not every man looks in his closet knowing the do's and don'ts of fashion. Some guys need a little help when it comes to putting together outfits and making stylish decisions. Here are the answers to the questions you're too embarrassed to ask!

1. Is it ever okay to leave my dress shirt untucked?

The general rule of thumb is that if the hem is even all around, the shirt can be worn untucked. If the hem varies in length, it should always be tucked in. A tucked in shirt with tails will give off a more mature appearance.

2. Is it cool to wear sneakers with dress pants?

Pairing pants and shoes are important to the overall look. If you are wearing a suit, it is pretty straightforward — wear a nice pair of dress shoes. However, it is perfectly acceptable to wear fashion sneakers with a more casual outfit.

3. Can I wear denim on top and bottom?

It used to be taboo in the fashion world to wear double denim, but now it's acceptable if you make sure the wash of your denim contrasts on the top and bottom.

4. What socks should I wear with jeans?

This all depends on the shoes you are wearing. If you are wearing casual loafers, you might consider going sockless if weather permits. If the weather is cooler, opt for dress socks you wear with trousers or a fun fashion sock. As a general rule, white athletic socks should be reserved for sneakers and workout clothes.

5. Do I have to hem my pants or can I roll them?

All dress pants should be hemmed. If you want to do an understated cuff on your jeans, you can pull off that look if you roll once or twice. Anything more than that will look unflattering and awkward.

When in doubt and you're not sure about a fashion decision, skip it. You are better off going with what you know and avoiding a fashion faux pas.
